Prophet Elias & Pyrgos

Above Pyrgos, on the homonymous mountain stands the Monastery of Prophet Elias which was founded at the beginning of the 18th century. Apart from the carved wooden templon in its katholikon, the monastery possesses important sacred relics, manuscripts,old books etc. A small collection of ethnographic material is also housed in the rooms of the monastery.

Pyrgos is the most traditional village of Santorini island with so many churches around it and with narrow pedestrian streets round of small, pretty and white cycladic houses. The architecture of the buildings and the whole village inspire everybody to stay there and explore the village more and more… Local tastes and wines, a beautiful square which is under the trees’ shade and the kindly hospitality of the villagers make everything inside us better!
